Top Five Movies of All Time

WHAT’S UP EVERYONE! *spoken in true Greg fashion*

A bit of a light week topic wise on the GameOverGreggy Show. Understandable considering Colin and Tim were sick (and Kevin, but we don’t talk about Kevin). Kristine did a great job stepping in and though almost all the topics were submitted from Patreon subscribers, it was still a pretty good show.

The topic I’m going with this week is topic two: Top Five Movies of All Time.
I agree completely with Nick that it’s too hard to pick a top five list and rank them. Instead pick five movies that you love, because for movie lovers the list always changes. Consider my list a combination of movies I love, and ones I want to recommend to the world!

#1. I’ll start with a movie I’ve loved for a long time: “Garden State”, starring Zach Braff and Natalie Portman. This movie came out when I was a teenager and it was a time in my life where the story resonated with me (although it’s about being in your mid-twenties). The soundtrack is perfect, it even won a Grammy. For years if anyone asked me what my favourite movie was, I went with “Garden State”.

#2. Second movie that comes to mind is “Almost Famous”, starring Patrick Fugit and Kate Hudson. I heard good things about this movie and finally decided to watch it last year. I’ve watched three more times since then. Kate Hudson’s character is one of my favourites of any movie.

#3. “Short Term 12”, Starring Brie Larson and John Gallagher Jr. is a Netflix pick I highly recommend. The performances of the two leads are exceptional and the story is fantastic. Instead of endlessly scrolling the lists on Netflix, give this one a shot.

#4. “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”, starring Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet. The two leads have such great chemistry and the cinematography is excellent.

#5. last one I’ll mention is “American History X”, starring Edward Norton and Edward Furlong. Both actors are incredible and this one really is a must-see.

I could go on all day recommending movies (I took one look at my collection and wanted to add ten more to this list), but the topic said five so I’m sticking with these. Let me know in the comments what five movies you love and want me to watch!

Happy movie watching!

  1. I haven’t seen any of your five!! I’ll have to do a marathon and watch em 🙂 Without much thought, mine would be: Unstoppable (Action), If I Stay (Drama/Romance), Serendipity (Romance), Elf (Christmas/Comedy) and 21 (Crime/Drama). Lots of variation in there.

  2. Oh man, don’t even get me started. Movies play such a huge part in what I want to do with my life. Here’s my top 5:

    1. “Aliens”. It’s the perfect action thriller, the perfect horror flick, and the perfect sci-fi all rolled I to one delicious package. Hands down my favorite film ever made.

    2. “District 9”. I think District 9 is the best sci-fi movie of the last decade. It’s beautifully bleak, and incredibly hard to watch at points. Sharlto Copley dies an amazing job as the lead character.

    3. “How to Train Your Dragon”. I haven’t had an animated movie hit me so hard since I first watched Toy Story as a kid. It’s gorgeous to look at and frequently hilarious. Also made me cry, don’t judge.

    4. “Unbreakable”. One of M Night Schyamalan’s last good movies before he went off the deep end. Bruce Willis and Samuel. L. Jackson are fantastic adversaries in what is essentially a pseudo-superhero-thriller. It’s wonderful.
